An hour with a habituated family of mountain gorillas, in forest that has been there for twenty five thousand years.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest holds roughly half the world population of mountain gorillas. Tracking is strictly permitted, groups are small and you are allowed one hour with the family once you find them.
Uganda combines easily with a Kenyan or Rwandan itinerary, and we usually add Kibale for chimpanzees or Queen Elizabeth for savannah game.
| Best time | June to September and December to February |
|---|---|
| Getting there | Flight from Entebbe to Kihihi, then a road transfer |
| Typical stay | Two to three nights |
| Known for | Mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, forest birds |
Permits are limited and issued per person per day, and we book them well ahead.
Kibale, further north, has the best chimp tracking in East Africa.
Tree climbing lions and a boat trip on the Kazinga Channel.
The drier months, June to September and December to February, make the forest trails easier. Gorilla tracking runs all year and permits are cheaper in the low season.

Cool, humid and often wet. Expect rain in any month.

Small lodges on the forest edge near each tracking sector.

Permit prices are set by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and change periodically. We quote the current price in writing before you commit.
Trackers locate the family before you set out, so success rates are very high, but it is wild forest and never a formal guarantee.
Tell us roughly when you want to travel and what you want to see. We will send back a real itinerary with real prices, usually within one working day.
